PLA Post – March 2022

Upcoming Art Show

Mark your Calendar! Our annual PLA Art Show will be held at the West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau, on March 11, from 5-8 pm. The theme this year is “Let There Be Light.” We will have individual art for sale, as well as collaborative art pieces from each classroom for a silent auction. Both Prodigy and community art will be on display. All proceeds will benefit the Prodigy mission funds and will support project-based learning efforts.

PTO Family Skate Night & Potluck

Friday, March 18th from 5pm-7pm @ Willow Grove Roller Rink in Chaffee – Bring a potluck dish to share and enjoy skating with your family! The rink will have drinks and snacks available for purchase as well. PTO will cover the entry fee for this PLA community event.

Afterschool Tutoring

Prodigy Leadership Academy is proud to announce that we will be offering reading and math tutoring starting this Tuesday, March 8th for grades K-5. If you believe that your student would benefit from tutoring support, we will be offering 6 student time slots on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4:15-4:45 pm.

The cost for a student to access this tutoring support is $15 per session. Those who choose to sign up will need to pay ahead of time for increments of at least 2 sessions or $30. For students who need the benefit of this educational support, but face financial limitations, Prodigy will seek to enlist partners who will contribute toward scholarships to offset the scholarship fees.

Make-Up Snow Days

With our recent snow days, please note that we have revised our calendar. We will be in session on the following days.

  • Monday, April 18 – SNOW DAY MAKE UP
  • Thursday, May 19 Last day of school – FULL DAY-normal 4:00 p.m. dismissal.

“Own It” Time

This semester, middle, junior, and high school students are teaming together for “Own It” time. What does it mean for a student to own his learning? “To own your learning is to take control of it,” says Jeremiah, a junior at Prodigy. “You are responsible for the time you’re given and you make the most of it.” So, when given time and a challenge to solve a campus or community problem, what do students do? Here are a few of the driving questions they have developed…

  • How can we make our library books more accessible to the student body?
  • How can we highlight Prodigy moments through the art of photography and through a documentary?
  • How can we use the art of up-cycling to help others and reduce waste?
  • How can we, as podcasters, inform the community of current events in an unbiased manner?
  • How can we enhance the campus and community through building projects?

The teams have been meeting to brainstorm ideas, community partners, learning goals, and next steps. As you can see the library group is already taking action! These are passionate, creative, critical thinkers. They collaborate well and make things happen. World-changers, you might say!
